Design is done by hand, using trace paper. Each layer of the proposed landscape may be drawn separately and combined digitally. This is an example of the shrub and tree layer.
Outdoor Kitchen Sketch
This client wanted a simple outdoor kitchen accessible from their existing deck, and plantings to dress up the entry to their back garden. It was tricky to design because there was only a small space left between the existing vegetable garden and deck, and the somewhat awkward circulation could not be changed. so proposed construction needed to preserve the root zone of a large shade tree and important site drainage, while creating a graceful transition.
Fire pit and table sketch
This client wanted to install a low seat wall and a fire pit, but they were also considering what it might feel like to have an outdoor table near the fire pit. This sketch helped illustrate how it might feel to spend time in this space, sitting around with friends on a summer evening.
Fire pit - Alternative design sketches
This client considered creating an oval space with a fire pit at one end of it, and an optional table at the other. Many many versions of this sketch were drawn before the final design was selected.
