ABOUT CATHY
Cathy Corlett started her career at the Smithsonian Institution Horticultural Services Division. Early roles included working for the District Botanist at the Salem Oregon, Bureau of Land Management and at the Kodiak Alaska Extension Service. As a practitioner, artist, and teacher of landscape architecture she is dedicated to lifelong learning about landscape ecology, horticulture, botany, and urban forestry. In her executive-level leadership roles at the Sierra Club and American Trails, she became a fierce advocate for trails and access to public land. Her experience with grant acquisition, grant program administration, outings program establishment, and strategic communications gives her a good understanding of how nonprofit organizations work, and what it takes to envision, fund and realize a project or program. In her academic work, design, and artist residencies, she has explored the ways landscape history can inform a site. She strives to create outdoor spaces that inspire deeper engagement with place, and foster mental, physical and community health.
