College Hill Residence - After
This backyard deck is a shady retreat in summer under the grape kiwi vines. Evergreen sword ferns, semi-evergreen Legacy blueberries and brilliant reds of the Japanese Maple extend the season into fall. On sunny winter days the shelter of the studio space blocks western winds but allows long-distance glimpses of the Cascade Range.
College Hill Residence - Before Plants
We had a lot to work with here. The L-shaped studio and double doors were perfect for creating a small deck as an extension of the indoor space. Adding a trellis created a feeling of an outdoor room and allowed for fine tuning the microclimate. The Japanese Maple, stone steps and path are in, but the blueberries and ferns and irises and kiwi vines and all the rest really finished the look!
